How we build it right

The process behind concrete sidewalks & walkways built to last

Credibility comes from how it's built, not from promises. Here's the order of operations on every concrete sidewalks & walkways job.

01

Compacting the subgrade for clay

We ready and pack the subgrade over Leon County's red clay so the path holds its run instead of heaving and dropping panel by panel as the soil swells and contracts.

02

Pouring to 4 inches

A walkway is poured at 4 inches, the depth foot traffic calls for, with structural fiber and welded wire mesh run through to bind the slab as a unit.

03

Spacing the joints

Control joints are laid out so the slab has fixed lines to travel along as the clay below it cycles through its wet and dry seasons.

04

Sloping the water off

We dial in the fall so storm rain drains off the path instead of gathering, since standing water soaks the clay, scours out the base, and leaves the tread slick.

05

Brooming for traction

A broom finish gives sure footing through rain and the daily Panhandle damp.

Why Lucky's

The one you don't have to worry about

01

We answer, and we come back

Most contractors vanish after the deposit. We pick up the phone, show up when we say, and stand behind the work after the truck leaves. The follow-through is the difference.

02

Managed crews, our name on it

A foreman we know runs your job and a vetted crew does the work, managed by Lucky's, one company accountable from the first call to the final walkthrough.

03

Fully insured, paperwork-ready

COI and lien waivers on file before we break ground. The documentation that lets commercial clients pay and gives homeowners peace of mind.

04

Built right, not cheap

Prepped subgrade, reinforced and mixed to spec for the job, and proper curing. We build credibility through the process, not promises. On concrete sidewalks & walkways, that starts with compacting the subgrade for clay.

FAQ

Tallahassee concrete sidewalks & walkways, answered

How much does a concrete walkway cost in Tallahassee?

Walkways and sidewalks price on width, thickness, and base prep over the red clay, plus the fall and slip-aware finish our frequent storms demand. For an opening band, walkways tend to land near $8 to $13 per square foot. We attach a number after walking the run.

Can a trip hazard be fixed without replacing the whole walk?

Frequently, yes. A lone panel that clay movement or roots have heaved can often be ground down or lifted out and replaced rather than redoing the whole run. We pin down the cause and steer you to the right fix.

Why have my walkway panels lifted at the joints?

Red clay absorbs and releases water unevenly under the panels and beds them at different rates, with roots from our canopy oaks adding to it. We rebuild the base, add fiber and mesh, and rework the joint layout on the repair so the movement does not just return.

Can you build ramps that meet ADA requirements?

Yes. We form ramps and approaches to the grade and finish accessibility calls for, carrying a slip-aware texture for the wet Panhandle weather. Tell us the use and we pour to it.

How do you space the joints on a walkway?

Spacing tracks slab width and thickness so movement stays managed. Too few joints is where runaway cracking begins, and clay that swells and shrinks leaves you no margin on it.

When is a new sidewalk ready to walk on?

Foot traffic generally holds a few days while the slab builds strength, a little longer in heavy Tallahassee humidity. We give you the dates tied to your particular pour up front.
